The Eagle Conservation Alliance (ECA), a global partnership of experts working to conserve eagles, is the first international organization focused exclusively on eagle conservation. The organization formed in 2006, during the International Workshop on Eagle Management and Conservation hold in Oropesa, Spain. The workshop included 32 eagle specialists representing 10 countries from four continents. The second Conference was hold in Puebla, Mexico where 42 specialists from 13 countries discussed eagle conservation priorities and tasks through lectures, working groups and round tables. The mission of the ECA is to share and enhance resources and knowledge in order to cooperatively understand and conserve the world?s eagles. The primary goals are to improve management for conservation of existing eagle populations; recover and, when appropriate, reintroduce eagles to nature; conduct research; provide global advice and technical support; develop and distribute information; integrate native communities into conservation efforts, fundraise for priority initiatives; and build capacity for training in science and eagle management. This the FIRST CALL for the THIRD ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE EAGLE CONSERVATION ALLIANCE (ECA)" that will be hold on October 7th through 10th 2009 in the Pyrenees, Spain. The workshop is sponsored, hosted and locally coordinated by the Fundación para la Conservación del Quebrantahuesos FCQ (Spanish Foundation for Conservation of the Bearded vulture), the Aragón Government and the Aquila Foundation. The event is also funded by the following Institutions: The Zoological Society of San Diego and the SeaWorld/Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, Africam Safari and the Fort Worth Zoo. The aim of the conference is to assemble individuals and institution with extraordinary interest and skills related to eagle conservation, providing an opportunity to share problems and possible solutions, discuss needs and set timeline actions. The conference provides a springboard from which to promote eagle conservation through work both in the wild and in captivity. This Third Annual Meeting of the ECA will incorporate a variety of sections including: Plenary lectures, scientific communications, specific workshops, roundtables, special reports, organizational structure and discussion and ECA ongoing and future projects.Participation is by invitation. Registration fee is 250 US $ and will cover organization expenses including printed matter and hard copies of the proceedings. Thanks to the generosity of the FCQ and the government of Arag?n, accommodation, all meals and transportation from Zaragoza to the Pyrenees will be covered for registered eligible participants.
